About Fern
Fern is a sweet male cat who requires a patient and understanding adopter to help him adjust to his new home at his own pace. To set him up for success, start in a small area to prevent access to hard-to-reach spots and block off possible escape routes. He may become overwhelmed in large open spaces, so giving him time to settle in is crucial. Providing scratch posts, cat trees, hides (like cardboard boxes and cat igloos), and access to high and low spaces such as shelves or dressers will give him a sense of safety. A home with older children or teens who understand basic cat body language and can give him space when needed is ideal. He could benefit from the company of another social kitty to help build his confidence and might do well in a home with a calm, social dog, provided the interactions are monitored.
Having arrived at the shelter with his siblings, Fern was initially fearful and spent a long time undergoing treatment for ringworm, which affected his socialization. While he can still be hand-shy with sudden movements, with patience, he enjoys gentle cheek scratches and is gradually becoming more comfortable. He loves roast chicken, wand toys, and engaging in fun enrichment activities. Although he may take time to show his true self, with the right adopter, Fern will continue to blossom more each day.
