Meet Zippy!

Zippy is a bright, energetic and affectionate young girl with a big personality and an even bigger enthusiasm for life! She is full of character, loves her toys and is incredibly cuddly. She has a playful, cheeky side that is sure to make you laugh, and with the right family, she will bring plenty of fun, love and brightness into your life.

Zippy is looking for an experienced, committed home that can provide the structure, guidance, patience and enrichment she needs to thrive.

Zippy can become easily over-aroused and sometimes struggles with impulse control and self-regulation. When excited, she may fixate on dangling items such as treat pouches or lanyards, which can lead to jumping up, mouthing, grabbing and tugging. She has a busy, inquisitive mind and sometimes needs a little help learning when it's time to slow down and relax.

Importantly, Zippy has shown that she is capable of settling when away from the shelter environment. Her behaviour appears to be more heightened in the shelter, where the noise, activity and stimulation can make it difficult for her to switch off. Outside this environment, she has demonstrated an ability to relax and settle, which is encouraging and suggests that a calm, consistent home could make a real difference for her.

She will do best in a calm, predictable home environment where clear boundaries, positive guidance and consistency are established from day one. Zippy will need time to decompress after adoption, settle into her new surroundings and build trust with her family. Time alone should be introduced gradually to help her develop confidence and independence.

Zippy absolutely loves her toys! Whether she is playing, chewing or enjoying an interactive game, she is happiest when she has something fun to do. She also has a wonderfully affectionate side and loves a cuddle, making her a lovely combination of playful energy and affection.

Zippy loves having a job to do and will benefit from ongoing positive reinforcement training, enrichment activities and mental stimulation. Puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, slow feeders, training games and other food-based enrichment will provide great opportunities to channel her intelligence and enthusiasm.

As an active chewer, Zippy will need a dog-proofed home and plenty of appropriate chew toys. She particularly enjoys durable toys and may enthusiastically dismantle softer ones, so these are best offered under supervision. Keeping valuable items out of reach will help her learn what belongs to her and what doesn't.

Due to her excitement levels and exuberant play style, Zippy is not suited to a home with young children. She would be best matched with adults or older teenagers who understand dogs, are confident setting boundaries and can provide calm, consistent guidance.

Zippy enjoys the company of other dogs, although her enthusiasm can sometimes be a little overwhelming! She may become reactive in certain situations and will benefit from appropriate introductions and guidance. Any resident dogs must meet her before adoption and should ideally be calm, social and tolerant of her energetic personality.

What makes Zippy special is that underneath all that energy is a loving, cuddly and playful young girl who has so much to offer. She is funny, affectionate, intelligent and full of life. While she has some behaviours that will require patience and ongoing training, they do not define who she is.

The fact that Zippy has already shown an ability to settle outside the shelter is a positive sign. With the right environment, consistent support and opportunities to relax, she has the potential to continue developing these important skills.

Zippy isn't looking for a perfect home. She's looking for the right home. One that understands her enthusiasm, appreciates her personality and is willing to give her the time and guidance she deserves.
